Systematics will not only be the first meeting of the federation of European systematic societies BioSyst EU, but also the 7th meeting in the biennal series of meetings of the Systematics Association (UK) and the 11th annual meeting of the GfBS (Germany).
This major conference will cover all taxonomic groups and methodological avenues to encourage synergy in the European systematics community at large. Currently, several symposia are being considered, dedicated a.o. to Microbial systematics, Flower morphology, Species circumscription and concepts. Workshops will be dedicated a.o. to Annonaceae, Web-based taxonomy, Bryophyte evolution. During or adjacent to the symposium, training sessions will be given for the EDIT Scratchpads (limited attendance).

This one-day training course is intended to help current and prospective Scratchpad owners develop their site building skills, or to help key people act as a support service for their home institution. You will be given the opportunity to learn best practice and gain a better understanding of what the Scratchpads (http://scratchpads.eu/) can do for you and your research community. ALTER-Net Summer School 2009

The ALTER-Net Summer School shall contribute to durable integration and spread of excellence within and beyond the network, with a view to promote interdisciplinary approaches. The 2009 Summer School will focus on:

* Biodiversity and ecosystems in Europe;

* Ecosystem processes, function, services and benefits;

* Resilience of social and natural systems;

* Valuation of biodiversity and ecosystem services;

* Linking biodiversity research with policy and the public.

Experts will give lectures on the themes mentioned above. Guided by tutors in the afternoons, working groups will discuss implications of findings for actual European ecosystems and their services and compile these in a written report. An excursion will illustrate land-use change in the Provence.
