Integration research grants for taxonomy

EDIT wants to encourage increased collaboration between taxonomic researchers. In the framework of its work-package 2 (Integrating and reshaping the expert and expertise basis) EDIT therefore offers support to collaborative taxonomic research.

  • Teams of researchers / students / research associates representing more than one European EDIT partner institution. (The PI (principal investigator, leader of the team) must be a researcher from a European EDIT partner institution)
  • Researchers / students / research associates from or associated with other institutions in and/or outside Europe can be part of the team.

What kind of research is supported?

In order to receive support, the following criteria must be fulfilled:

  • The research plan must include a minimum of one publication co-authored by members of the applying team.
  • The research plan must include a description of how taxonomic results will be made available electronically, e.g., through GBIF and/or an electronic journal.
  • The supported research or, if the supported research is part of a long-term collaborative project, a ‘deliverable’ component thereof must be completed no later than 30 September, 2010.

What does the EDIT grant cover?

How will proposals be evaluated?
Proposals are evaluated by a panel of researchers organised by EDIT WP2. In addition to the formal criteria listed above, proposals will be evaluated according to:

  • Degree with which the project will advance EDIT's goals, see http://www.e-taxonomy.eu/node/2
  • Quality of proposed research project
  • Research qualifications
  • Justification for items applied for
  • Degree of justified use of EDIT products

How will the funding of successful applications be implemented?

Once a proposal has been approved, the granted amount of money will be transferred to the EDIT account of the home institution of the PI and/or other team members in EDIT institutions. For subsequent approval of the costs by the leader of WP2, proper documentation (either original tickets, receipts etc., or an invoice from the researcher’s institution with copies of paid tickets, receipts etc. attached) must be sent to the WP2 office in Copenhagen. All costs incurred must be entered in the Information Management Tool (IMT) under 2.X by the institution having incurred those costs.
