Integration Research Grants

 

EDIT wants to encourage increased collaboration between taxonomic researchers. In particular, EDIT wants to develop collaborative descriptive/revisionary taxonomy, which is in specific need of support. In the framework of its work-package 2 (Integrating and reshaping the expert and expertise basis) EDIT therefore offers support to collaborative taxonomic research.

Who can apply?

  • Teams of researchers / students / research associates representing more than one European EDIT partner institution. (The PI (principal investigator, leader of the team) must be a researcher from a European EDIT partner institution).
  • Researchers / students / research associates and/or outside Europe can be part of the team.

What kind of research is supported?
In order to receive support, the following criteria must be fulfilled:

  • The research must be within the field of descriptive/revisionary taxonomy
  • The research plan must include a minimum of one publication co-authored by members of the applying team.
  • The research plan must include a description of how taxonomic results will be made available electronically, e.g., through GBIF and/or an electronic journal.
  • The supported research or, if the supported research is part of a long-term collaborative project, an output (e.g. a submitted manuscript) from the supported part must be completed no later than 30 November, 2010.

What does the EDIT grant cover?
1.    For all team members:
1.    Travel costs (economy class)
2.    For team members from EDIT partner institutions1:
1.    Lab costs and field work costs
2.    Salary for hired assistants (max. cost 2000 €) specifically needed for the project
3.    Smaller equipment (max. cost 1000 €) specifically needed for the project

What does the grant not cover?

  • Institutional overheads (but a flat 20% EDIT overhead will be transferred to the receiving institution)

What is the upper limit of the grants?

  • Each grant will not exceed 20,000€, excluding overheads

Other conditions
•    A report on the supported research must be delivered to the WP2 office in Copenhagen no later than 31 December, 2010

Format for application
The PI (principal investigator, leader of the team) should fill in and submit the “Integrating Research Grant” application form. The following enclosures are mandatory (for each team member):

  • Current Curriculum Vitae (max. one page, font size 12).
  • A list of maximum 10 peer reviewed publications published within the past 5 years – and with the total number of peer-reviewed publications indicated.
  • A list of contributions to web sites and other electronic resources (if any).
  • A Team Member Statement (see application form).

Additionally a Detailed description of the proposed project (max. one page, font size 12) should be enclosed in the application.

How will proposals be evaluated?
Proposals are evaluated by a panel of researchers organised by EDIT WP2.

Applications which do not strictly fulfil the formal criteria (including format) may not be evaluated.

In addition to the formal criteria listed above, proposals will be evaluated according to:

  • Quality of proposed research project
  • Research qualifications
  • Justification for items applied for
  • Degree of justified use of EDIT products

How will the funding of successful applications be implemented?

Once a proposal has been approved, the granted amount of money will be transferred to the EDIT account of the home institution of the PI and/or other team members in EDIT institutions. For subsequent approval of the costs by he leader of WP2, proper documentation (original tickets , receipts etc., oran

invoice from the researcher’s institution with copies of paid tickets, receipts etc. attached) must be sent to the WP2 office in Copenhagen. All costs incurred must be entered in the Information Management Tool (IMT) under 2.4 by the institution having incurred those costs. Please contact the Team Leader from your institution for more information.

Submission and deadline
The application, including all mandatory enclosures, should be sent by e-mail as one .pdf file to EDIT WP2 manager Katrine Mohr (kmohr@snm.ku.dk). The deadline is 17th May 2010.
